4. Configuración

The D-Link DAP-1620 can be set up using two primary methods: Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) or a web navegador.

4.1. WPS Setup (Recommended)

  1. Plug the DAP-1620 into a power outlet near your existing wireless router. Wait for the Power LED to turn solid green.
  2. Preme o botón WPS do teu enrutador sen fíos.
  3. Within two minutes, press the WPS button on the DAP-1620. The WPS LED on the extender will blink during the connection process.
  4. Once connected, the WPS LED will turn solid green, and the Signal Strength LEDs will illuminate, indicating a successful connection.
  5. Unplug the DAP-1620 and move it to a location halfway between your router and the Wi-Fi "dead zone." Ensure the Signal Strength LEDs show at least two bars for optimal performance.

Note: If your router does not have a WPS button, or if WPS setup fails, proceed with the Web Configuración do navegador.

4.2. Web Configuración do navegador

  1. Plug the DAP-1620 into a power outlet.
  2. Connect your computer or mobile device to the DAP-1620's default Wi-Fi network (e.g., "dlink-XXXX"). The network name and password can be found on the Wi-Fi Configuration Card.
  3. Abrir a web navegador e ingresa http://dlinkap.local or the IP address (refer to the QIG if dlinkap.local does not work).
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions of the setup wizard to select your existing Wi-Fi network and enter its password.
  5. Configure the extended network's name (SSID) and password. You can choose to use the same as your main network or create new ones.
  6. Once setup is complete, unplug the DAP-1620 and move it to your desired location. Verify the Signal Strength LEDs for optimal placement.

5. Funcionamento do extensor

The DAP-1620 operates as a Wi-Fi range extender by default, but can also function as an Access Point.

5.1. Wi-Fi Extender Mode

In this mode, the DAP-1620 connects wirelessly to your existing router and rebroadcasts the signal, extending its range. Devices connect to the extended network (either with the same or a different SSID) and access the internet through the extender.

5.2. Modo de punto de acceso (PA)

To use the DAP-1620 as an Access Point, connect it to your router using an Ethernet cable via the LAN port. In this mode, the DAP-1620 creates a new Wi-Fi network, converting a wired connection into a wireless one. This is useful for areas with existing Ethernet wiring but no Wi-Fi coverage.

5.3. Colocación óptima

For best performance, place the DAP-1620 in a location where it receives a strong signal from your main router (indicated by at least two or three Signal Strength LEDs) and is also close enough to the areas where you need extended Wi-Fi coverage. Avoid placing it near large metal objects, concrete walls, or other devices that may cause interference (e.g., microwaves, cordless phones).

6. Mantemento

Regular maintenance helps ensure the optimal performance and longevity of your D-Link DAP-1620.

  • Actualizacións de firmware: Comprobe periodicamente a compatibilidade con D-Link websitio para actualizacións de firmware. A actualización do firmware pode mellorar o rendemento, engadir novas funcións e corrixir erros.
  • Limpeza: Manteña o dispositivo limpo e libre de po. Use un pano suave e seco. Non empregue produtos de limpeza líquidos nin aerosois.
  • Ventilación: Ensure the device has adequate ventilation. Do not block the ventilation holes.
  • Ciclo de enerxía: If you experience intermittent issues, try power cycling the device by unplugging it from the power outlet for 10 seconds and then plugging it back in.

7 Solución de problemas

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your DAP-1620.

7.1. No Internet Access After Setup

  • Comprobar a intensidade do sinal: Ensure the DAP-1620 is receiving a strong signal from your main router. Relocate the extender if the Signal Strength LEDs indicate a weak connection (fewer than two bars).
  • Verificar o contrasinal do enrutador: Confirm that you entered the correct Wi-Fi password for your main router during setup.
  • Reiniciar dispositivos: Power cycle your main router, the DAP-1620, and your connected devices.

7.2. Frequent Disconnections or Slow Speeds

  • Reubicar o extensor: Move the DAP-1620 closer to your main router to improve the signal quality.
  • Comprobar a interferencia: Ensure the extender is not near other electronic devices that might cause interference.
  • Actualización de firmware: Check for and install the latest firmware for the DAP-1620.
  • Router Channel: Consider changing the Wi-Fi channel on your main router to avoid congestion.

7.3. Non se pode acceder Web-Based Setup Utility

  • Conexión directa: Ensure your device is connected to the DAP-1620's Wi-Fi network (e.g., "dlink-XXXX") or directly via an Ethernet cable.
  • Enderezo correcto: Verifica que estás a usar o enderezo correcto: http://dlinkap.local or the IP address.
  • Restablecer o dispositivo: If all else fails, perform a factory reset by pressing and holding the Reset button for 10 seconds. This will revert all settings to default, and you will need to set up the extender again.
