3. Instrucións de funcionamento

The Work Sharp WS3000 is designed for precise and repeatable sharpening. Always wear safety glasses when operating the sharpener.

3.1 Sharpening Flat Blades (Chisels, Plane Irons)

The sharpening port allows for precise bevel angle settings of 20°, 25°, 30°, and 35° for chisels and plane irons up to 2 inches wide. A 5° micro-bevel can be achieved for fast re-honing.

  1. Flattening the Back: Before sharpening the bevel, ensure the back of the tool is perfectly flat. Place the tool heel-first onto the top of the abrasive disc and slide it flat across the surface. This ensures a true flat back, crucial for sharp edges.
  2. Axuste do ángulo de bisel: Select the desired angle (20°, 25°, 30°, or 35°) on the sharpening port. The port's fence helps keep the tool square during sharpening.
  3. Sharpening the Bevel: Insert the tool into the sharpening port, bevel side down. Apply light, even pressure and move the tool across the abrasive disc. Work through progressively finer grits (e.g., P120 for rough shaping, P400 for fine shaping, P1000 for sharpening, 3600 for honing) until the desired sharpness is achieved.
  4. Removing the Burr: The lapping abrasive on the sharpening port automatically removes any burr created on the backside of the tool when you pull it back across.

3.2 Sharpening Shaped Tools (Carving Tools, Lathe Tools)

The innovative slotted Edge-Vision wheel allows you to see the edge of the tool you are sharpening, not just the back. This is particularly useful for shaped tools like carving and lathe tools.

  1. Replace the standard glass wheel with the slotted Edge-Vision wheel.
  2. Bring the carving or lathe tool up underneath the wheel, bevel side up.
  3. As the wheel spins, you will be able to clearly see the cutting edge being sharpened through the slots. This allows for precise control over the sharpening process for complex shapes.

4. Mantemento

4.1 Changing Abrasive Discs

Abrasive discs are designed for easy replacement. When a disc wears out or you need to change grit:

  1. Ensure the unit is unplugged and the wheel has stopped spinning.
  2. Carefully peel off the old abrasive disc from the glass wheel.
  3. Clean any residue from the glass wheel surface.
  4. Peel the backing from the new disc and apply it firmly, ensuring proper alignment.

4.2 Cleaning the Abrasive Discs

Use the included crepe stick (abrasive cleaner) to remove accumulated debris from the abrasive discs. This helps maintain their effectiveness and prolongs their lifespan.

5 Solución de problemas

5.1 Wheel Wobble or Noise

If the sharpening wheel appears to wobble or produces excessive noise during operation, ensure the glass wheel is securely fastened to the motor head. Verify that the retaining screw is tightened properly. An unbalanced or improperly seated wheel can lead to vibration and affect sharpening precision. If the issue persists after ensuring proper installation, contact customer support.

Note: Some users have reported issues with wheel wobble or noise. While the manufacturer aims for balanced operation, ensure all components are correctly assembled and tightened.
