Mitutoyo 155-904 Telescoping Gage Set Instruction Manual

Modelo: 155-904

Introdución

This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper use, care, and maintenance of your Mitutoyo 155-904 Telescoping Gage Set. This set is designed for accurate measurement of internal dimensions such as bores, slots, and grooves. Adhering to these instructions will ensure optimal performance and longevity of your precision instruments.

Información de seguridade

Always handle precision measuring instruments with care to prevent damage and maintain accuracy. Observe the following safety guidelines:

  • Store gages in their protective case when not in use to prevent physical damage.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting gages to impact, as this can affect calibration and accuracy.
  • Do not use excessive force when operating the gages.
  • Keep gages clean and free from dirt, dust, and corrosive substances.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) if working in an environment that requires it.

Compoñentes:

  • Telescoping Gages (5 pieces): Each gage consists of two telescoping plungers that expand within the bore.
  • Knurled Clamp: Used to lock the plungers in position after measurement.
  • Funda protectora: For safe storage and transport of the gages.

Configuración

Before using the telescoping gages, ensure they are clean and free from any debris or oil. Select the appropriate gage size for the internal dimension you intend to measure. The set covers a range from 1/2" to 6".

  1. Remove the desired telescoping gage from its protective case.
  2. Wipe down the measuring surfaces with a clean, lint-free cloth.
  3. Ensure the plungers move freely and smoothly.

Instrucións de funcionamento

Follow these steps to accurately measure internal dimensions using the telescoping gage set:

  1. Select Gage: Choose the telescoping gage whose range encompasses the internal dimension to be measured.
  2. Compress Plungers: Afrouxa o knurled clamp at the end of the handle. Gently compress the two telescoping plungers together.
  3. Insert into Bore: Carefully insert the compressed plungers into the bore, slot, or groove to be measured. Position the gage slightly angled.
  4. Expand Plungers: Release the plungers, allowing them to expand beyond the true diameter of the bore.
  5. Square the Gage: While holding the handle, slowly rock the gage across the diameter of the bore. As you rock it, the plungers will retract slightly until they are perfectly square to the bore walls, indicating the true diameter.
  6. Lock Measurement: Once the gage is square and the plungers are at their maximum extension within the bore, tighten the knurled clamp firmly to lock the plungers in place.
  7. Remove Gage: Carefully remove the locked gage from the bore.
  8. Measure with Micrometer: Use an external micrometer or caliper to measure the distance across the locked plungers. This measurement represents the internal dimension of the bore.
  9. Record Measurement: Note down the measured value.

Note: For consistent accuracy, ensure the micrometer or caliper used for the final measurement is also properly calibrated and handled with care.

Mantemento

Proper maintenance is crucial for preserving the accuracy and lifespan of your Mitutoyo telescoping gages.

  • Limpeza: After each use, wipe down the gages with a clean, soft cloth to remove any dirt, oil, or fingerprints. For stubborn grime, a mild solvent specifically designed for precision tools can be used, followed by thorough drying.
  • Lubricación: Periodically apply a thin film of light machine oil to the telescoping plungers to ensure smooth operation and prevent corrosion. Avoid over-lubrication.
  • Almacenamento: Always store the gages in their original protective case in a dry, temperature-controlled environment. Avoid storing them in direct sunlight or areas with high humidity.
  • Inspección: Regularly inspect the gages for any signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Check that the plungers move freely and the clamp mechanism functions correctly.
  • Calibración: While telescoping gages do not have user-adjustable calibration, their accuracy relies on the external measuring instrument (micrometer/caliper) used with them. Ensure your external measuring tools are regularly calibrated.

Resolución de problemas

If you encounter issues with your telescoping gage set, consider the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemaCausa posibleSolución
Plungers do not expand smoothly.Suciedade, residuos ou falta de lubricación.Clean plungers thoroughly and apply a thin film of light machine oil.
Inconsistent measurements.Improper technique (not squaring the gage), worn plungers, or issues with the external measuring tool.Review operating instructions for proper technique. Inspect plungers for wear. Verify calibration of micrometer/caliper.
Knurled clamp does not hold firmly.Desgastado clamp mechanism or internal spring issue.Asegurar clamp is tightened sufficiently. If problem persists, contact Mitutoyo customer support for service.
