This section outlines the general steps for installing the Timken BT100 Trailer Bearing Kit. Specific procedures may vary slightly depending on your trailer model. Refer to your trailer's service manual for detailed instructions.

5.1. Preparación

  1. Park the trailer on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  2. Chock the wheels that will remain on the ground.
  3. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel to be serviced.
  4. Jack up the trailer axle until the wheel is off the ground.
  5. Place jack stands securely under the trailer frame or axle.
  6. Remove the lug nuts and the wheel.
  7. Remove the dust cap, cotter pin, castle nut, and washer from the spindle.
  8. Carefully slide the hub assembly off the spindle.

5.2. Removing Old Components

  1. Remove the old outer bearing from the hub.
  2. Pry out the old grease seal from the rear of the hub.
  3. Remove the old inner bearing.
  4. Using a brass drift or a bearing race removal tool, carefully tap out the old inner and outer bearing races from the hub. Ensure the hub is clean and free of debris.

5.3. Installing New Components

  1. Install New Bearing Races: Carefully tap the new inner and outer bearing races into the hub using a bearing race driver or a large socket that matches the race diameter. Ensure they are seated flush and squarely.
  2. Pack Bearings with Grease: Thoroughly pack both the new inner and outer tapered roller bearings with high-quality trailer bearing grease. Use a bearing packer tool or the palm-packing method to ensure grease is forced through all roller elements and cages.
  3. Install Inner Bearing and Seal: Place the packed inner bearing into the hub. Install the new grease seal firmly into the rear of the hub, ensuring it is seated correctly and not bent.
  4. Install Hub Assembly: Carefully slide the hub assembly back onto the spindle.
  5. Install Outer Bearing: Insert the packed outer bearing onto the spindle, into the hub.
  6. Install Washer and Castle Nut: Place the washer onto the spindle, followed by the castle nut.
  7. Adjust Bearing Play: Tighten the castle nut while rotating the hub to seat the bearings. Then, loosen the nut slightly until there is no end play but the hub still rotates freely. Align the castle nut with the cotter pin hole.
  8. Insert Cotter Pin: Insert the new cotter pin through the castle nut and spindle hole, bending the ends to secure it.
  9. Install Dust Cap: Tap the dust cap onto the end of the hub.
  10. Reinstalar a roda: Mount the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  11. Lower Trailer: Lower the trailer off the jack stands and remove the jack.
  12. Porcas de torque: Torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications in a star pattern.
