1. Introdución

The Work Sharp Electric Kitchen Knife Sharpener is designed to provide fast, easy, and consistent sharpening for all your kitchen knives, including serrated edges, as well as scissors and shears. This manual provides instructions for setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your sharpener.

2. Configuración

Before first use, ensure the sharpener is placed on a stable, flat surface. The power cord is conveniently stored in the base of the unit.

  1. Unwind the power cord from the storage compartment located on the underside of the sharpener.

  3. Ensure the sharpener is stable and ready for use.

3. Instrucións de funcionamento

3.1. Sharpening Knives

The sharpener features angle guides and flexible abrasive discs for precise and gentle sharpening.

  1. Press the power button located on the side of the sharpener to turn it on.
  2. Rest your knife blade in the appropriate angle guide slot (left or right). The sharpener is designed to automatically set the correct sharpening angle.
  3. Draw the knife blade through the slot at a consistent rate, approximately one inch per second. Alternate sides for even sharpening.
  4. The sharpener will automatically shut off after a timed sharpening cycle (approximately 90 seconds per side).
  5. After the sharpening cycle, use the built-in ceramic hone wheel (located in the center slot) to remove any burrs and refine the edge. Draw the knife through the honing slot a few times, alternating sides.

3.2. Sharpening Scissors and Shears

The sharpener can also be used for scissors and shears by removing the knife angle guide.

  1. Ensure the sharpener is unplugged.
  2. Gently push the knife angle guide from the back to remove it. This will expose the dedicated scissor sharpening guide.
  3. Open your scissors and lay one blade flat on the exposed scissor sharpening guide.
  4. Plug in the sharpener and press the power button.
  5. Draw the scissor blade through the slot at a consistent rate, maintaining contact with the abrasive. Perform two passes on one side, then two passes on the other side.
  6. Repeat for the second scissor blade if necessary.

4. Mantemento

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and effectiveness of your sharpener.

4.1. Limpeza

After each use, it is recommended to clean the sharpener to remove any metal shavings or dust.

  1. Unplug the sharpener from the power outlet.
  2. Remove the knife angle guide.
  3. Open the top housing of the sharpener to access the internal components.
  4. Use a dry cloth or a soft brush to gently wipe away any accumulated metal dust or debris from the abrasive discs and the internal compartment.
  5. Close the housing and reattach the knife angle guide.

4.2. Replacing Abrasive Discs

The flexible abrasive discs are designed for long life and can be reversed for extended use. Replacement abrasive packs are available from Work Sharp.

  1. Ensure the sharpener is unplugged.
  2. Remove the knife angle guide and open the top housing.
  3. Carefully remove the retaining caps on the abrasive discs.
  4. Flip the discs over to use the fresh side, or replace them with new discs from a Work Sharp replacement abrasive pack.
  5. Reattach the retaining caps, close the housing, and reattach the knife angle guide.

5 Solución de problemas

If you encounter any issues with your Work Sharp Electric Kitchen Knife Sharpener, please refer to the following common solutions:

  • Sharpener does not turn on: Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into both the sharpener and a working electrical outlet. Check if the outlet itself is functional.
  • Knives are not sharpening effectively: Ensure you are drawing the knife through the slots at the recommended speed (approx. 1 inch per second) and alternating sides. The abrasive discs may need to be reversed or replaced if they are worn out.
  • Ruído excesivo durante o funcionamento: This could indicate that the abrasive discs are worn or that there is debris inside the sharpener. Perform the cleaning steps outlined in Section 4.1.
